Kim Wayans — along with her motley crew of comedic brothers, defined the early 90’s with their groundbreaking sketch show “In Living Color”. Kim was one of the breakout stars … skewering everyone from Oprah to LaToya Jackson. (The Big O was none to happy about it either …)
After “In Living Color” was cancelled, Wayans fell off the map for a bit. But she roared back to prominence last year with her performance as an unforgiving, unrelenting homophobic mom in the indie drama “Pariah”.
For someone who made a name for herself for irreverent and often-inappropriate sketch comedy, this role was something she desperately coveted. And in our recent MoxieQ red carpet interview, the actress ‘fessed up that the director could not find the right person to play the part until Kim came along.
What you don’t see in the interview is me dishing with Kim about how she was robbed for an Academy Award nomination given the buzz about the film. (Uh, she agreed.) And turns out the dress she wore to the red carpet was both thrifty AND glamorous. (Read that: inexpensive … yet still to die for.)
The cast of “In Living Color” was recently honored at Nickelodeon’s TV Land Awards as a television pioneer. It was nice to see the Wayans clan back ruling the roost and getting the recognition they deserve. And now that the drama bug has bitten Kim … I’m sure she’ll be getting a few more juicy roles and subsequent accolades.
Like I said in the interview … we missed you, girlfriend. Welcome back!
