What Celebrities Are Saying About “You Have Four Minutes”

After five years of gestation, my book You Have Four Minutes: My Life as an Unlikely Celebrity Interviewer will finally see the light of day on Tuesday. While it was conceived during the pandemic, things really didn’t start coming together until last year when I signed my book deal.

God, that felt good to type. How good? I’m gonna type it again.

Signed. My. Book. Deal.

Color Heart’s Nancy Wilson a fan. (She’s even got her own chapter, dammit.)

Since my book was about A-B-C-D-Z-list celebrities, I knew I needed their blessing. I also needed them to shamelessly compliment my author-rific achievements — which originated from many of my Pitch KC interviews.

Most were willing. Some were appalled by my forwardness and gave me kudos reluctantly. And a few flat-out refused. (I’m not going to name names, but it rhymes with Fatty Pewmoan.)

My publisher — who reminds me of Roger “I’m-too-old-for-this-sh*t” Murtaugh in Lethal Weapon — couldn’t believe I scored some of these blurbs.

Frankly, that makes two of us. But here we are.

Without further ado, here are just a few that you’ll find sprinkled through the book or prominently displayed on the back cover.

“Michael Mackie has done it. I don’t know how. I don’t know why. But goddamn it, he did it. It’s a must-read.” – Sarah Silverman

“I give it 5 out of 5 tits.” – Bridget Everett

“Deliciously entertaining.” – Nigella Lawson

“If there’s one thing this world needs more of, it’s candor about celebrity run-ins. We live in such a celebrity-centric culture that you might as well take Michael’s word for it because, like me, he’s talked to ‘em all this point. Period. So, enjoy this book. I know you’ll love it.” – Kathy Griffin

“We’ve never met in person, but he told me to say this book is good.” – Ana Gastayer

“Oh, my God. I’ve got to think of something.” – Caroline Rhea

“I’m sure it’s fabulous.” – Helen Hunt

“Read, listen … what have you. Can’t recommend this highly enough.” – Kevin Pollak

“Michael Mackie is a great, supportive friend and great interviewer. I always enjoy his intelligent and interesting questions.” – Fred Schneider, The B-52s

“My love for Lindsay Wagner has been outmatched by Michael’s. He is hilarious. He puts the fun in fundamentalist. Read. This. Book!” – Tuc Watkins

“If you want to read one of the best books ever in the history of celebrity-ism, you gotta check out Michael’s book about his interviews with all the celebrities over the last 20 years. You will learn things you never thought possible.” – Trevor Penick, O-Town

“I haven’t read it. I barely know you.” – Patti LuPone

And if that’s not enough for you to buy this damn memoir, there’s also a 600-word foreword from The B-52s’ Cindy Wilson that kicks off the book. I’m not posting that here. You gotta read that heartfelt musing in its entirety … when you purchase my book.

God, that also felt good to type. How good? Imma type it again.

When. You. Purchase. My. Book.
